Many dive sites offer extremely easy shore entries, shallow reefs, gentle slopes and protected conditions that are ideal for beginner divers and students developing their skills. Beautiful coral reefs, marine protected areas, turtles and abundant reef fish provide an incredible environment in which to introduce someone to diving.
As divers progress, the environment can progress with them. Other sites offer greater depth, different underwater topography and more challenging conditions, allowing experienced divers, Divemaster candidates and future instructors to develop their abilities in a wider variety of real-world situations.
For professional training, this is particularly valuable. Candidates can learn to supervise and teach divers in calm, accessible environments while also gaining experience with deeper dives, different site layouts and more advanced dive planning.
Combined with warm water, year-round diving and an extraordinary variety of marine life, Dauin’s easy access and diverse underwater topography make it an exceptional location for both PADI Divemaster and Instructor-level training.
Dauin & Apo Island: The Best of Both Worlds
Dauin is a paradise for macro and muck-diving enthusiasts. Its black-sand slopes and remarkable biodiversity have made the area internationally famous among divers looking for small, unusual and sometimes very rare marine life.
Only around 45 minutes by boat from our dive center, Apo Island offers almost the opposite experience: spectacular coral reefs, abundant reef fish, turtles and some of the healthiest reef systems in the Philippines.
From a single base in Dauin, you can therefore experience two very different sides of Philippine diving — world-class macro diving along the Dauin coast and beautiful tropical coral reefs around Apo Island.
A Long-Established Dive Community
Dauin’s diving industry did not develop overnight. A handful of long-established dive centers helped introduce divers from around the world to the area and build the destination into what it is today.
Bongo Bongo Divers is proud to be one of those long-established operators, and our team has watched Dauin develop while remaining closely connected to the local diving community.
Over the years, the area has also attracted experienced instructors, marine researchers, conservation organizations and dive professionals from around the world. This creates an environment where professional candidates are not simply completing a course — they are becoming part of an established diving community with a huge amount of experience to share.
Marine Conservation in Dauin
Marine conservation has played an important role in Dauin for many years. Local authorities established marine protected areas and guidelines designed to protect the coastline, reefs and marine life that make the area so special.
Our own professional training is closely connected to that conservation culture.
We have a long-standing relationship with Marine Conservation Philippines (MCP), which conducts marine research, conservation projects and community programs in the area. We have also collaborated with Silliman University on different marine-related initiatives over the years.
Bongo Bongo Divers has additionally received funding through PADI AWARE for several conservation projects conducted in Dauin.
For us, conservation is not separate from professional dive training. Future Divemasters and Instructors will become ambassadors for the underwater environment, and understanding how dive professionals can contribute to protecting it is an important part of becoming a responsible member of the industry.
A Hyperbaric Chamber in Dauin
Another important development for the local diving community is Dauin’s own hyperbaric chamber.
Located only around five minutes from Bongo Bongo Divers, the facility provides specialist hyperbaric treatment close to Dauin’s main diving areas.
While every dive operation focuses first and foremost on prevention, safe diving practices and proper emergency planning, having access to a hyperbaric facility so close to the local dive community is an important additional safety resource — and particularly relevant for professional divers learning about emergency procedures and dive-site management.
Living & Training in Dauin
Dauin has the relaxed atmosphere of a small coastal town, while Dumaguete City is only around 20 minutes away.
Dumaguete is a manageable, human-sized city rather than a large metropolis, but it provides virtually everything candidates staying for several weeks may need: supermarkets, restaurants, shopping, hospitals, accommodation, cafés and other everyday services.
The city has its own airport with regular domestic connections, while ferry services provide easy access to neighboring destinations such as Siquijor, Cebu and Bohol.
This combination makes Dauin particularly comfortable for longer professional programs. You can train and dive in a quiet coastal environment while still having the conveniences and transport connections of a city nearby.
